What's the difference between monosplit and multisplit?+
A monosplit has one indoor and one outdoor unit for cooling a single room. A multisplit has one outdoor unit connected to 2, 3 or 4 indoor units (ideal for the whole home).
What is Inverter technology?+
Inverter continuously adjusts compressor output, avoiding abrupt starts and stops. It cuts energy consumption by 30% and improves acoustic comfort.
What BTU rating should I pick for my room?+
Roughly 100 W per m² (e.g. 25 m² ≈ 2,500 W ≈ 9,000 BTU). Add 15% if the room faces south or has large windows.
Do I need a certified installer?+
Yes, for split units using R32 refrigerant: installation requires a certified F-gas engineer.
How much does an air conditioner consume?+
A modern A++ monosplit uses roughly 0.5 to 1.2 kWh per running hour. Expect €50 to €150 per summer season.
Is R32 dangerous?+
No. R32 is a refrigerant with a very low Global Warming Potential (675), 3× lower than the old R410A. It is neither toxic nor flammable under normal use.
Can I install AC in a shared building?+
Yes, but installing an outdoor unit alters the façade — you'll usually need approval from the management company or landlord.
Difference between AC and an air-to-air heat pump?+
None technically: an air-to-air heat pump is simply a reversible AC used to heat in winter.
Does a portable AC replace a split?+
No. Portables are 20-30% less efficient due to the exhaust hose and are limited to rooms up to about 30 m².
What's the yearly maintenance?+
Clean filters every 2 weeks in season, check condensate drainage, and have a yearly professional inspection.
